I’ve been in the industry 10 years and I’ve done a huge amount of courses with some of the best coaches in the world. Poliquin, Klokov, Josh Bryant, Sebastian Oreb, Chad Wesley Smith, Ed Coan - and this is the best by a very long way!

LIAM BOURKE

Definitely the most informative course I've done to date and I've already started to incorporate some of the concepts into my own coaching and I'm already starting to see great results!

JAMES MORLEY

I work with a lot of athletes and many of those principles that Shane taught us went far beyond just strength athletes. Now its easier for me to spot issues via the gait cycle, or common compensations. Not only that, but now with the tools in the restoration work to fix those compensations and give the athlete better functionality as a by product.

MODULE 1

Foundational Knowledge

This module provides the the foundational knowledge required before taking on the remainder of this course. We take a brief look into the three main systems of the body, the myofascial, neural and circulatory systems, and introduce the different periodisation models and training blocks including conjugate, linear and daily undulating periodisations, as well as restoration, accumulation and intensification training blocks.

MODULE 2

The Gait Cycle

This module looks into the importance of gait in optimal athletic performance. It provides an overview of the components of the gait cycle as well as the external stressors that can affect an athlete's body.

MODULE 3

Hip Stability

This module takes a look into the human being, the gait cycle and hip stability. We diagnose and identify the common hip dyfunctions that can occur within human beings, and how you can create training phases to restore these issues.

MODULE 4

Shoulder Stability

This module follows everything we have learned in the gait cycle & hip stability modules, and builds upon it to include the shoulders and their relationship with the hips. Only then can we start to understand how a human being should optimally move.

MODULE 5

Restoration Phases

This module covers the importance of restorative training for strength athletes. Using knowledge from the previous modules, we can assess humans and plan restoration phases accordingly. We delve into exactly how to create these phases, what they include and the biomarkers we should be tracking. We also discuss how restorative training allows athletes to gain greater strength potential & extraction when it comes to the accumulation & intensification phases.

Accumulation Phases

MODULE 6

This module discusses the principles and strategies for designing an effective accumulation phase. It details information on loading levels, rep ranges, rest times, exercise selection and session order, as well as programming for powerlifting. We also look at different types of accumulation blocks and intensification blocks and how they can be used effectively to promote strength, whilst considering individual needs.

MODULE 7

Intensification Phases

This module discusses the importance of a variety of loading methodologies, such as deloads, neural drive techniques and conjugate training. It also covers principles such as top set programs, wave loading, clusters and post activation potentiation (PAP). Each of these techniques is recommended for optimal performance when it comes to lifting heavy weights.

MODULE 8

Triphasic Phases

One of my favourite phases! This module teaches you all about Triphasic Training Models. We go into everything eccentrics & isometrics.

MODULE 9

Strongman Events

This module provides key takeaways and advice when programming for Strongman events. It outlines different teaching strategies for the yoke, intensity blocks, drop sets, and advice for how to rotate through various events. We take a look into specifically tailoring a programme to each individual athlete.

MODULE 10

Pressing

This module takes a look into the press and common problems you may face when it comes to programming pressing exercises. We look a different lifter styles, exercises which may suit some individuals moreso than others. We also discuss plateaus and exactly how you can breakthrough these with your clients.

MODULE 11

Deadlift

This Module discusses mastering the deadlift. We discus how to assess bar path from the side, understanding and correctly using bracing, varying reps and load, and incorporating higher frequency deadlifting.

MODULE 12

Piecing It All Together

The final module is where we take everything we have learned and piece it all together to periodise a training year for any strength athlete!

Luitzen De Leeuw

I have learned even more than I thought I would. Most courses are pretty basic so I didn't have super high expectations, but I definitely got bang for my buck. Anatomy and biomechanics have always interested me, it's not new and feel like I have a pretty good understanding about it. But since this course I'm looking at things from multiple perspectives which broadens my overall view on things

Nickola Orr

My favourite part has been the injury trouble-shooting and prevention work. Shane really gets into the nitty gritty of common strongman issues and ways to rehab (particularly shoulders and gait) which is hard content to find as most information out there is for more static strength sports. I have already begun recommending this course to multiple other people and some of my more advanced athletes.

Chris Binder

No subject was glossed over; everything was given an appropriate level of attention for the format of this course. Plenty of concrete programming examples were given to give practical takeaways that can be immediately used for various relevant client scenarios.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I NEED QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE BEFORE DOING THIS COURSE?

This is a further education course. It is for coaches and personal trainers who are already working and have a baseline level of understanding, looking to expand their knowledge and skills. It is also for athletes who are already training this style, but want to understand the “why’s” behind the programming.

IS THIS SPECIFICALLY FOR STRONGMAN PERIODISATION?

This is a strength and conditioning course, so no! This is suitable for any Strength Coach or Athlete. We look at the human first, and how to maximise human movement and performance - which applies to any sport or person. Then we look at sport specific application afterwards, so there is some Strongman specific stuff, but the majority is multi sport applicable.

DO I NEED THE CERTIFIED OR NON CERTIFIED OPTION?

The information provided is THE SAME for both non-cert and cert. The only difference is the final assessment, 1-1 contact and certificate of completion at the end. The certification is suited best for coaches. If you want to be listed on the MST Systems website as a recommended coach and have the certificate to say you have done this course, while also taking advantage of having 1-1 contact with Shane directly (for questions relating to the course), this option will suit you best. The non certified is a popular choice for athletes looking to broaden their knowledge for their own training.
